Students at Kisii University in Kenya and the general public were warned about a reckless kiss due to a human papillomavirus outbreak that saw several people being admitted to the Kisii level 5 hospital after a positive test of the disease.

HPV is an infectious viral disease that causes mouth cancer and is transmitted by infected body fluids. That’s why people were advised not to kiss as they wish.




Symptoms include a sore throat, severe headache, high fever, vomiting and abdominal pain.

“We have been told that public health authorities in this field work day and night to find the root cause, but we are even advised to WhatsApp groups to avoid kissing and exchanging body fluids.” A third-year of public health student at Kisii University.

HPV is circulating gradually throughout Kenya and is gradually entering parts of Southern Africa and will soon reach Africa in general.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are now 79 Million people in the United States infected with the virus.  Most of the victims are teens and those in their early twenties.
